Elderflower (Sambucus Nigra)
Elderflowers are creamy white, five-petaled flowers that grow in bunches. They have a sweet scent with mild notes of anise. Native Americans used it to treat infections; the ancient Egyptians used it to improve complexions and heal burns. It’s still used in folk medicine across the world.
WHAT IT CONTAINS
The flower extract contains flavonoids such as quercetin, rutin, catechin, an essential oil such as citral, geranial, linalool, menthol, nerol, phenol, carboxylic acids such as caffeic acid, ferulic acid, and tannins.
WHY WE CHOSE IT
It has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects on the skin, which reduce inflammation and protect against UV damage (flavonoids). It also helps reduce wrinkles (essential oil). As a natural astringent, the flower extract also helps remove excess oil from pores without drying out the skin (tannins).
