A Guide to Skincare for a 20 Year Old

Skincare in your 20s (From a fellow 20-something who’s trying to figure it out herself)
~Jieya Gwalani

Alright, let’s be real—your 20s are exhausting. Like me, you’re probably juggling a million things—internships, college, daily responsibilities, all while trying to squeeze in a social life. And somehow, in the midst of all this, we’re expected to figure out which skincare products on social media actually work, which ingredients are worth the hype, and what kind of routine we should even be following. May the Skincare Gods help us.

In this chaotic decade, we’re supposed to magically morph into adults who’ve got it all together. But if you’re anything like me, you’re still too tired to even wash your face before bed.

However, I’ve still spent the last 10 months figuring out what works and I think I may have cracked the code??? And of course, I want to share it with anyone willing to listen :)

So, let’s break it down, 21-year-old to 21-year-old (or close enough), and talk skincare for the 20-somethings who don’t quite have it together yet.

Step 1 : Cleanser

  • You can never go wrong with a gentle, pH-balanced cleanser. Bonus points if it’s an exfoliating cleanser like the AHA Face Wash that can be used every day.
  • Like me, if you’re out the entire day and/or apply makeup — double cleanse at night! It’ll be your secret weapon (You'll thank me when you wake up without yesterday's mascara still haunting your under-eyes)

Step 2 : Serum

  • Avoid using more than one serum in your routine because you don’t know how they’ll react with each other. Instead, look for more multi-active formulas, that’ll help save time too — the Correcting Concentrate Serum (helps with dullness and any uneven skin tone) has been my savior, truly.
  • When the pesky hormonal acne shows up, you can never go wrong with using the Clarifying Concentrate as a spot treatment!

(Now, I know Moisturizers are supposed to be Step 3 but when I tried facial oils for the first time, I could never go back so please bear with me)

Step 3 : Facial Oil

  • The Radiance Face Oil has been my absolute go-to instead of a moisturiser. Lightweight, non-greasy, AND smells great! What more could I ask for?

Step 4 : Sunscreen (the most important step)

  • Trust me on this one: every time you skip SPF, you're giving future you an extra wrinkle (I don’t make the rules) So, find a sunscreen that doesn't feel greasy or make you break out, and slather it on like it's your morning coffee.

Now, let’s not forget exfoliation. There was a time when I thought exfoliating meant scrubbing my face like I was trying to remove an ancient curse. Don't be me and exfoliate gently. The Overnight Peel works best here. I use it 2-3 times a week and switch it out with the Correcting Concentrate Serum :)

And there you have it! An entire skincare routine that has taken me months to figure out (so you don’t have to). Just keep it simple, stay consistent, and your future self will love you for starting now.

Also, feel free to reach out to me anytime via the Aminu contact channels and I will be very happy to help you out with any queries you may have.

Now, excuse me while I go actually follow my own advice.

Maybe.
