Do you wash your face?
Journal
If yes, you need to read this…..
Cleansing is a very important part of skincare but is often overlooked. In fact, cleansing is the key to a great skincare routine. However, we take it so much for granted that so many people don’t even consider cleansing as skincare leading to some very common mistakes.

1. Do not wash your face more than 2x a day
People especially those with oily, acne-prone skin think washing their face multiple times in a day will help control acne. On the contrary, it can aggravate the problem and cause more breakouts and sensitivity on top of it. My team wrote a small blog on this a while ago and I highly recommend reading it.
2. Do not sleep with your makeup or sunscreen
I understand at times we are so tired after a long day of work or long evening of standing in heels that you just want to hit the pillow. Sleeping in makeup can clog your pores in turn causing breakouts, white heads, black heads, dullness and even hasten ageing.
The 2-3 minutes that it takes to remove makeup using a gentle & effective make up remover and to apply a serum or moisturiser on your face will go a long long way and keeping your skin looking radiant and clear for longer. My recommendation would of course be Aminu’s Melting Balm Cleanser that is super easy-peasy to use and works great even for oily skin.
3. Don’t use generic cleansers / face wash that may not be suitable for your skin
Oh, this one takes the prize because I see so many people using the family face wash. We spend so much time picking the right serum or moisturiser but we hardly pay attention to the right cleanser/face wash for our unique skin needs. If your skin is sensitive dry or mature (45+), the lipid barrier is already very thin, and in such cases, I highly recommend using a cream-based cleanser.
If your skin is oily and or feels congested (and not sensitive) I highly recommend using a cleanser with gentle plant-based AHAs.
4. Don't wash your face with hot water & pat your face dry gently.
Congratulations you have made it to the last mistake. Hot water can thin the protective oil layer or the lipid barrier on our skin and thus instead use lukewarm water. Second, while drying your face do not rub the towel, instead gently dab your face. Rubbing can accelerate sagging.
Cleansing as a step is as important as serum or moisturising and if done right can improve the benefits of your serums and moisturisers multiple times. If you have any more specific questions, please feel free to reach out to us. We love talking & sharing the right advice on skincare.
